Specialised Sexual Violence Training Packs Launched:
Limerick, 10 April
The Rape Crisis Network Ireland (RCNI), today, 10th April, welcome Jan O’Sullivan TD to the Greenhills Hotel, Limerick, where she will launch the RCNI National Training Packs on sexual violence specialised education.
Jan O’Sullivan TD launching the packs said, 'it gives me great pleasure to launch these training packs. The specialised knowledge rape crisis centres have developed over the years, as captured in these training packs, is a valuable resource for all of Irish society. In adding my support I hope that these packs will gain the widest possible attention and that the Rape Crisis trainers will be supported and facilitated in delivering these education programmes to the widest possible audiences.'
Susan Miner, RCNI Services Support Coordinator said, ‘we are very proud of the achievement for the Rape Crisis Sector of compiling these training packs. They represent Rape Crisis Centre best practice and are drawn directly from our experiences of supporting survivors of sexual violence for the past 25 years. The production of these packs in the face of funding shortage across the sector, speak of our positive vision for the future. Our belief and our vision is to end sexual violence in Ireland. These packs, as well as promoting specialised responses to survivors, equip teenagers and others in the prevention of these crimes.’

Senator Fergal Browne (FG) at the launch said, ‘I am delighted to be associated with the launch today of the five specialist training packs. They serve to further enhance the professionalism of those involved in the area of sexual violence.’

• The training packs are the culmination of training expertise and best practice accumulated over 25 years of Rape Crisis education, prevention and specialised service delivery.
• RCNI member Rape Crisis Centres developed the core training necessary to provide counselling and support. Susan Borner and Marian Shiels authored and edited the most recent edition. Aoibheann McCann, from the Galway Rape Crisis Centre, developed and compiled the specialist training packs, assisted with material from and feedback by women from a number of Rape Crisis Centres.
